AAHS is honored to host Edward Ornstein, Embassy Director and Deputy General Counsel for the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida. Mr. Ornstein's advocacy, publications and lectures focus on the intersections between Tribal interests, environmental stewardship, and public policy. His talk will cover the history and influence of the Miccosukee Tribe in the Apalachicola River valley.

Guests will also have the opportunity for a guided preview of the Raney Museum's new craft and artifact display, Miccosukee: Art, Identity & Continuity, scheduled to open to the public on October 28.

The program is FREE and open to the public, although seating is limited.

The Raney House is privileged to host a collection of crafts and artifacts of the indigenous Miccosukee people through the month of November 2026. The exhibit is currated by and on loan from the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida. The displays offer visitors a rare opportunity to learn about both the tribe's past and its continued presence in Florida today.
Admission is free, although your donation is greatly appreciated.

WAR Comes to Apalachicola! - The Sinking & Rescue of the Empire Mica (10 Nov 2026)

June 29, 1942. The British tanker Empire Mica was torpedoed by a German U-boat off the coast of Cape San Blas. Apalachicola fishing boats took to the water and rescued the survivors.
Grayson Shephard's Nov 10 talk will review the sinking, rescue and current efforts to memorialize the valiant efforts by the Apalachicola fleet.
